Seeking closure, the parents of a young woman lost at sea recruit world-wise jack of all trades, Chris Gage and his wife Arly for a fact-finding mission to the remote island of Suvarov. Discoveries there shatter old truths and expand the search to global proportions, culminating in a deadly confrontation at sea.

The plot more or less held my interest, but I was not on the edge of my seat. The writing in this novel was merely adequate, but didn't seem to be the result of a gifted story-teller. A lot of W. Somerset Maugham is much, much better.

I was attracted to this book by the title and the blurb that it involved Suvarov Island. Having spent a little time on Suvarov -- been there twice -- I found the description of the atoll totally lacking vividness. I also found the extensive part of the early portion of the book about Tahiti and Papeete uninteresting and lacking vividness, too.

If it is just a story you want, fine. Read it. Don't expect to "see" or experience anything new, though..

Suvarov edition by Fritz Damler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed this book. There was a lot going on in this fast paced story. There are a few editing issues that were missed.
I just discovered Fritz Damlers excellent writing when visiting Tinkertown Museum in Sandia Park, NM on vacation recently. He is a multitalented guy-sailor, EMT, luthier, musician, fixit man and world traveler. All of these talents, as well as excellent writing, come out in his stories! He even made me curious about getting my own boat! I would love to meet him!
Set in the South Pacific, which the author knows well, Damler combines his extensive sailing history with a unique mystery plot to give us a great read. Hard to put down!
I enjoyed this book. The mystery and the characters held my interest, The travel and sailing details rang true. This author is a great storyteller.
After reading Fritz Damler's first mystery novel I was anxious to get this one and see if it would be as satisfying as the one he co-authored. A mystery has to take you on a rollercoaster ride filled with anticipation and excitement and leave you exhilarated for the experience and also a little bummed that it has ended. Damler did that with this book. The characters are relatable, the settings authentic. There was just enough pathos and humor mixed in. You will find it hard to put down. Expect to lose some sleep!
Fritz Damler uses his experiences around the world to bring detail and authenticity to complex plots. Because of his craft, even the complex ones are easily followed and enjoyed. Thank you for another first class Nail Biter!
